Solar Power Plant Construction – Scope of Work
Building a solar power plant includes a comprehensive range of activities, from feasibility study and engineering to installation, testing, and commissioning. Below is a mechanical–civil–electrical integrated scope of work for utility-scale solar power plant construction.
1. Site Assessment & Preparation
- Topographical survey and geotechnical investigation
- Land clearing, leveling, and boundary marking
- Access road construction and site fencing
2. Civil Works
- Construction of inverter/control room buildings
- Foundation and piling works for solar module mounting structures
- Trenches for power and control cables
- Stormwater drainage system
3. Module Mounting Structures
- Supply and installation of fixed-tilt or tracking structures
- Fabrication, galvanization, and erection of steel/aluminum supports
- Foundations using RCC, steel piles, or concrete blocks
- Structure alignment & structural load testing
4. Solar PV Module Installation
- Handling and installation of photovoltaic panels
- String formation and inter-connection of modules
- DC combiner box connections
- Visual inspection, IV testing for module health
5. Electrical Systems – DC Side
- Laying of DC cables from modules to string combiner boxes
- Installation of DC combiner/junction boxes with surge protection
- DC cabling from combiner boxes to inverter stations
6. Electrical Systems – AC Side
- Installation of inverters, step-up transformers & switchgear
- 33kV/66kV/132kV substation construction (if applicable)
- Cable laying for medium voltage and high voltage lines
- Earthing and lightning protection systems
7. Grid Interconnection
- Supply and erection of overhead or underground transmission lines
- Integration with utility grid as per local regulations
- Relay and protection system coordination
8. SCADA & Monitoring Systems
- Installation of SCADA hardware for real-time plant monitoring
- String monitoring boxes, data loggers, and weather stations
- Communication network setup (fiber optic, wireless, etc.)
9. Testing, Commissioning & Trial Run
- Electrical testing of components: insulation, polarity, functional
- PV module performance validation
- Grid synchronization and load testing
- Trial operation and performance ratio calculation
10. Operation & Maintenance (O&M) Setup
- Supply of tools, spares, and maintenance manuals
- Training for plant operators
- AMC proposal: cleaning, inspection, fault rectification
